Why get your business valued?

Business Planning

Business Planning

Understanding the value of your business is important at any stage but particularly when you are considering your growth plans or an exit. Management teams often take a professional valuation as a base line and then re-evaluate with their regular business planning events to chart the value increase of key strategies.

Divorce

Divorce

Divorce is a stressful and often complex time. Getting a professional valuation of your business is required when assets are being assessed and settlements agreed.

Selling

Selling

Clearly when selling your shares or business interests it is important to have an independently assessed valuation carried out. This valuation can be used by you or shown to the potential buyers to make sure that realistic offers are being made. Business Broker costs are typically high and usually commit you to selling your business with that Broker.

Retiring Partner or Shareholder

Retiring Partner or Shareholder

If you, or one of your fellow Partners/Directors is looking to retire there can often be disagreements over the valuation of their shares or ownership. An independent report on the valuation audited by a Chartered Accountant can help balance the discussions to make this process easier and less contentious.

Probate

Probate

On the death of a family member who owned a business, it is important to have an independent valuation carried out on their ownership. We work with the solicitors and company accountant to provide a professional, comprehensive and independent valuation.

Disputes

Disputes

Unfortunately, disputes between shareholders and partners is all too common. If these cannot be resolved amicably, then one or more of the shareholders/partners may want to leave the business and redeem the value of their ownership. An independent valuation is required to ascertain what this is worth.

Asset Protection

Asset Protection

Professional businesses need to consider shareholder protection, key man assurance, directors and officers insurance, professional indemnity, trusts and other asset protections to cover them in case of business difficulty or litigation. Having the business independently valued is vital to ensure that this is done correctly.

Pension Planning

Pension Planning

If you have a Self Invested Pension Plan (SIPP) or a Small Self Administered Scheme (SSAS) business valuations are often required, particularly if borrowing in our business premises. We can work with you and your Financial Adviser or lease company assets.

EOT/MBO/MBI/EBI

EOT/MBO/MBI/EBI

Management Buy Outs and Management Buy Ins have become a popular succession route for owners looking to exit a business or parent companies wanting to dispose of a non-core business. These both require an independent valuation of the company.

Borrowing

Borrowing

Whether you are borrowing for growth, cashflow, to buy assets, to acquire a competitor or consolidate other borrowing, knowing the value of your business are and past this independently will help your decision making and is often required by the lender.

What do we do?

Our experienced team offer a bespoke valuation service for you or your clients' business, presented in a professionally written 20 page report which has been audited by a Chartered Accountants and arrives as three quality printed versions and a digital soft copy in pdf which is suitable for use with HMRC or in court for divorce or dispute purposes. We can also offer you advice on a range of areas that would potentially increase your business value.

How do we do it?

We are qualified financial professionals that use our experience to assess a wide range of bad data (financial statements and company data) along with soft data (background information about your business, products, processes and management). We then compare your business to c. 2,000 companies in the UK based on your sector. We assess the most appropriate valuation methods for example 'Discounted Cash Flow' or 'EBITDA Multiples', 'Universal Multiples' and more. This hands on experience is then enhanced with our proprietary Valuation Tool's algorithms. It assesses thousands of data points and to provide you with an independently assessed, professionally prepared business valuation.

How does it work?

Our initial consultation is free of charge. We ask you to provide us with financial statements and/or management accounts and ask you a range of questions to help understand more about your business and what makes it unique. It typically takes us four or five working days to assess the information and produce the valuation, before it is audited and a report is created and sent to you as a digital pdf and three quality hard copies (more copies can be requested if required).
